My Anti-virus, Firewall and Anti-Spyware/Anti-Adware Choices
A lot of people choose one of the big-name security software packages from Norton, McAfee and such to protect their computers.
I’m not one of them. I tried them in the past, but I learned that I didn’t like relying on a “it will do everything” security package — sure they were cheaper, but I felt that I got what I paid for…
My choices are:
- Antivirus: the NOD32 anti-virus program from Eset. NOD32 is fast and isn’t so greedy about computer resources like memory and cpu cycles.
- Firewall: the Sunbelt Personal Firewall from Sunbelt Software. Right now, Sunbelt has a 50% off special on Sunbelt Personal Firewall. Note: Sunbelt Personal Firewall requires Windows XP, not Windows Vista.
- Anti-spyware/Anti-adware: the CounterSpy anti-spyware / anti-adware program from Sunbelt Softwarae. CounterSpy works with Windows Vista and Windows XP.
