Setting Up a Home Network

If you want to set up a home network — or to more effectively protect a single computer if you have a cable modem or DSL modem connection, you need to start with a router.

One of the best choices is the Linksys WRT54GL, which is an 802.11g 54Mbits/second wireless router.

While you might be tempted by one of the newer, advertised 802.11n models there is something very important to understand. There is NO 802.11n standard, so far. There is a recommendation but it has not been approved — and may never be approved in the current form.

For best compatibility, stick with the 802.11g models for now.
