Buying a New Computer For Christmas
Buying a new computer for Christmas is normally a challenge for any family, especially if it’s their first computer.
It’s easy to buy too much computer power, but that can be a waste of money.
But, it’s much easier to buy a computer based on price and get something that is woefully underpowered for today’s world.
The cheapest computers have the “lite” processors — not the Intel Pentium 4, but the Celeron that runs slower and at a much, much slower speed to access memory on the motherboard. Similarly, the AMD has a cheaper processor line.
The other bad thing is that many manufacturers preload the computer will all sorts of junk that takes up lots of memory and CPU cycles. Whether it is the “trial version” of some bloated anti-virus program or their own “call home and check for updates” program, these can cause a noticeable slowness in a marginally-powered computer.
So, what do you do?
That’s what this blog is about — and what my Computer for Christmas site is about. The site has a quck look at the problems and my tips for buying your new computer and for securing it against the problems of the Internet.
